Pont des Arts crosses the Seine between the Institute of France and Louvre, which was named Palais des Arts (Palace of Arts) during the First Empire. The first metal bridge of Paris, intended only to pedestrians, Pont des Arts was built between 1801 and 1804, and rebuilt between 1981 and 1984.
