Place Vendôme - the famous square located in the first arrondissement of Paris, was created as a monument devoted to the glory of the army of Louis XIV, the Sun King.
A lot of famous people lived in Place Vendome. These include composer Frederic Chopin (at number 12), writer George Sand or writers Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, who lived at the Ritz for a while.
The name of Ernest Hemingway is also associated with Place Vendôme, as he claimed to have contributed to the liberation of the Ritz Hotel, in 1944.
