Tuileries Gardens (Jardin des Tuileries) represent the most important and oldest French garden. The Gardens are located in the heart of Paris, from Place de la Concorde up to the Louvre Palace from West to East, and from the Seine up to Rivoli Street, from South to North.
The name of „Tuileries” was taken from the initial destination of the location where the Gardens were subsequently placed, more precisely that of hosting a medieval „factory” for the manufacturing of burned-clay tiles used for the roofs of Paris buildings, „tuille” meaning „tile”. Being found precisely on the banks of the Seine, the reddish clay used for the manufacturing of such construction elements was present in abundance.
